After graduating as a Microbiologist and following a fast track senior management career in a leading private sector paper manufacturing company, Jonathan returned to the East Riding to own and run the family Hotel and Restaurant business. Jonathan was elected to East Riding of Yorkshire Council in 1999 and spent many years as deputy leader involved in a range of portfolios. He is an accredited Local Government Association member peer having undertaken many peer reviews across the countries local authorities and sits on the Local Government Associations Community Wellbeing Board which reflects his interest in health and Social care integration and a particular interest in Local Governments role in tackling inequalities through their lead role in influencing the wider social determinants of health and wellbeing.
As Leader of the Council he is now keen to maintain the focus on economic growth and regeneration as we exit the pandemic, whilst recognising the need to ensure equitable delivery of services and opportunities to all across the authorities sphere of influence. He often quotes the fact that ‘a job, a home and a friend’ forms the basis for a good future in life.
With grown up children and eight grandchildren and an interest in photography, local history, antiquarian books and glassware, he is keen to see the area a place where future generations can live and thrive.
