This project will deliver W10 & W12 gauge enhancements on the South Bank line between Immingham & Doncaster, enabling the larger ‘high cube’ containers to be transported by rail.
CASE STUDY – South Humber Rail Gauge Enhancements PHOTOS – South Humber Rail Gauge Enhancements
By around 2020 more than 50% of containers arriving at our UK ports will be on ‘high cube’ containers. We are currently not able to transport them out of the South Humber ports, where our rail infrastructure only supports standard containers.
‘High cube’ containers are 9’6” in measurement and therefore limitations currently involve height & width restrictions to bridges, tunnels, platforms & other structures.
