Learn about the pivotal role of Career Leaders and how we support them in facilitating continuous careers programme improvement.
Careers Leaders are the key connection between students and employers whilst facilitating a continuously improving careers programme for their school or college.
They are responsible and accountable for the delivery of their school’s programme of career advice and guidance. It is a senior role that requires the person doing it to have a clear overview of the school’s careers provision and to make sure that the school meets the Gatsby Benchmarks.
A Careers Leader is someone who can liaise with external partners, coordinate and manage an embedded careers programme and effectively implement feedback from stakeholders.
In such a pivotal role, the Careers Hub is here to support you.
Teams Channel
One of the ways we help support you as a career leader is by creating a forum for you to interact with one another as well as having access to the full network of Enterprise Advisors.
The HEY Careers Hub Microsoft Teams Channel was launched in 2022 and is a place where Careers Leaders share requests for employer support at events and compare best practices with one another. The channel is also used by ourselves and employers to share engagement opportunities that are available for schools, colleges and young people to get involved with.
Enterprise Advisors
Each school that is part of the Careers Hub will be assigned an Enterprise Advisor. These are individuals who work for local businesses and volunteer their time to support schools and colleges with their careers programmes.
Although many of them turn up and deliver activities as part of the careers programme, their role is more strategic. They are put in place to help Careers Leaders build a careers programme that is more reflective of the current employment market.
Support and Training
The Careers & Enterprise Company offer training (https://www.careersandenterprise.co.uk/careers-leaders/careers-leader-training/) which is an opportunity for Careers Leaders to accelerate their school or college towards achieving the Gatsby Benchmarks. They also have an array of tools and resources (https://www.careersandenterprise.co.uk/careers-leaders/tools-resources/) available to help you in your role.
We also host regular Careers Clinics that are an informal chance to network, ask questions, get information, share, advise or just check in and celebrate the incredible work you’re doing. Often, we are joined on these calls by an employer who will talk a bit about their industry and the skills needed to get into it, as well as answer your questions.
